At Cresent Fine Furniture, fine craftsmanship is a family tradition.

For seven decades, Cresent Fine Furniture has staked our reputation on providing high-quality solid wood furniture at an outstanding value.   Now in our third generation of family ownership and hands-on management, we strive every day to carry on this tradition and uphold our hard-earned reputation.

Cresent was founded in 1947 by Charles Tomkins, who, when he was unable to procure furniture for his store that met his exacting standards, decided that he would just have to make it himself.   Surrounding himself with craftsman from his hometown of Gallatin, Tennessee, he began producing solid cherry and solid maple bedroom furniture and then hit the road—often driving across the country with a sample nightstand in his car to spread the word about this little furniture company in Tennessee.

Over the years Cresent’s reputation grew, and the company expanded both our Tennessee production facilities and in the late 1960’s added another generation of family ownership to the management team.  In the early 1980’s our founder’s son Tommy Tomkins and son-in-law Dennis Condra took the reins to lead Cresent. They worked alongside many second and third-generation employees to expand Cresent’s business, introducing solid mahogany to the species that Cresent used, as well as adding dining room and occasional furniture to the bedroom assortments produced the Tennessee factory.

In the late 1990’s our third generation of owners joined the Cresent team, and today work alongside their fathers to bring Cresent successfully into the 21^st Century.   Although the business model has changed over the last 10 years as the American furniture manufacturing industry has faced many challenges, we remain committed to hands-on management of the business along with our employees–who average 19 years of service with Cresent.
